The Red Head Gallery is pleased to present Cloud Cell by Xiaojing Yan.
Xiaojing Yan’s artworks explore transformative spaces between nature, culture and the making of identity. She takes familiar objects and, through subtle material shifts, pries open their layers of meaning to reveal complex states of being in suspended possibility. In doing so, she draws from her experience as a Chinese immigrant in Canada, embracing the precarious circumstance of living between two cultures, and broadening that reality to encompass the human condition of perpetual change and growth.
Xiaojing Yan is a China born GTA based artist. She holds a M.F.A on Sculpture from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA and a B.F.A from Nanjing Arts Institute, China. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including most recently the Project Grant from the Canadian Council for the Arts 2014, the Emerging Artist Grant from Ontario Arts Council 2014 and the Travel Grant from College Art Association, NYC 2011. Yan is also the recipient of the 2013 Mandarin Profile Awards and the Young Alumni Achievement Award 2014 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
