The Museums of Mississauga present the exhibit Extraordinary Lives: Inspiring Women of Peel at Bradley Museum, February 14th to June 16th, 2013. The exhibit is based on the Canadian Federation of University Women’s recently published book of the same name. This exhibit features thirty-six inspiring and unique women who represent almost two hundred years of Peel’s history, and a wide range of life experiences, community involvement and activism. The earliest is Eliza Field Jones (1804-1890) who was a teacher at the Credit Mission School, as well as an author, painter, and diarist. The youngest woman featured is Rabia Sultana Khedr, who was born in 1969 with a genetic eye disorder that has left her blind, and is a consultant, advocate, a human rights activist and mother of four. The Museums of Mississauga is delighted to present this celebration of these inspiring women of peel past and present, with interpretive graphics and text, artifacts, as well as an interactive opportunity for visitors to suggest their own nominations for who inspires them! The book Extraordinary Lives: Inspiring Women of Peel will be available for purchase at the Museum for $29.95; all profits go to support scholarships and fellowships for Canadian women through the CFUW Charitable Trust. You can view this exhibit free of charge in the Anchorage at the Bradley Museum, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. As well, guided tours of Bradley Museum are offered Wednesday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Tours, which include admission to Benares Historic House, are $6.00 for adults; $4.80 for students and children and $15.00 for a family (plus tax). Bradley Museum is located south of the QEW, and east of Southdown Road at 1620 Orr Road. The Museums of Mississauga are part of the Culture Division, City of Mississauga.
